I had the opportunity to work as an Assistant Production Designer for A Song for the Snow Lion, supporting the design led by Kunzang Wangmo (Dzongu) for a film by Pawo Choyning Dorji.
The concert stage in Pangbisa drew from elements of the Snow Lion and the lakes as the Mentsi Meto, and the snow-capped mountains of Lunana curtains. It truly was a meaningful experience to see how a space could be shaped to hold both performance and emotion.
This experience expanded my interest in spatial and production-based work, and in how environments can quietly support storytelling.
Much of the process involved hands-on work, from painting to assembling and installing elements, often within tight timelines. It required patience, collaboration, and adaptability.
The Spark Within grew out of a workshop led by the Chairwoman of VAST Bhutan, where I assisted in one of the programs, facilitating Zentangle sessions with 32 teachers from Dechencholing.
As the works came together, I was given the role of curating the exhibition; finding a way to connect each piece while still holding space for their individual stories.
I worked with a simple visual idea: white threads moving across the space, reflecting the layers we carry within ourselves, gradually loosening over time. A single yellow thread ran through it all, symbolizing the spark of creativity that connected everyone’s journey.
This experience shifted my understanding of curating, not just as arranging artworks, but as creating a space where people feel seen, heard, and able to express themselves.
In celebration of International Women’s Day and the 25th anniversary of Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck as UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, I contributed as a props designer for a theatre performance led by Mr. Kunga Tenzin Dorji (Supe), in collaboration with Y-PEER Bhutan, UNFPA Bhutan, and RENEW.
The performance honored Her Majesty’s advocacy and lasting impact on social awareness in Bhutan.
Developed within a short timeframe, the process involved intensive painting, building, and installation which highlights the energy, care, and collaboration behind bringing the production to life.
